That鈥檚 the end of our live coverage of the U.S. v. Skrmetti decision today. But our work continues. We want to leave you today with a final note from our client in this case, Samantha Williams and her transgender daughter.

"If one thing gives me hope, it鈥檚 my daughter. Even after all the emotions of today, L.W. has been texting me all day about her plans for how to continue the fight for young people like her."

We'll keep fighting with Samantha, her daughter, and trans youth across the country for the care they need.

Must read: Justice Sotomayor鈥檚 dissent

Today鈥檚 ruling is a devastating loss for transgender people and our families, and an affront to the Constitution.

We'll continue to fight alongside trans youth in Tennessee and across the nation for the health care they deserve.

By retreating from meaningful judicial review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons transgender children and their families to political whims. In sadness, I dissent." - Justice Sonia Sotomayor, dissenting in Supreme Court case United States v. Skrmetti

BREAKING: We have a decision in U.S. v. Skrmetti

The Supreme Court ruled Tennessee鈥檚 law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth can remain in effect.

This is devastating for trans people and our families but doesn鈥檛 end our work against President Trump鈥檚 attacks on trans people and our health care.

Our cases against President Trump on behalf of trans people can continue. We will not back down from the fight for trans health care and for trans people鈥檚 dignity and freedom.

Preview: U.S. v. Skrmetti

The Facts: The question in this case is whether Tennessee鈥檚 law banning gender-affirming hormone therapies for transgender minors violates the Equal Protection Clause of the US Constitution.

Our Argument: The 网红爆料 argues that Tennessee鈥檚 ban is a clear example of discrimination on the basis of sex and transgender status making it a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

We made a similar argument in 2020 when, alongside other legal advocates, we successfully argued in front of the Supreme Court on behalf of LGBTQ clients fired because of their sexual orientation and gender identity, including a transgender woman fired from her job at a Michigan funeral home. In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of LGBTQ workers and found 鈥渋t is impossible to discriminate against a person for being homosexual or transgender without discriminating against that individual based on sex鈥 and therefore discrimination against LGBTQ workers was impermissible sex discrimination under Title VII, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in employment.
