WLE Tutoring Policy

Tutoring appointments are 30-minutes each. If there are no following appointments or students waiting to be tutored, then a tutor can work with you for a max of 60 minutes at their discretion. By receiving tutoring, you agree to abide by the WLE Tutoring policy.

WLE Tutoring Mode

For the Fall 2025 semester, tutoring is offered both in-person and virtually. USF St. Petersburg and USF Tampa offer in-person tutoring.

  • Virtual tutoring is offered to all 3 campuses (USFT, USFSP, USFSM) by appointment only. Virtual tutoring is provided via Microsoft Teams (which you must have downloaded before your appointment). Students from USFSM (and students studying French at USFSP) are highly encouraged to take advantage of our virtual tutoring sessions.
  • For In-person tutoring at USF Tampa: appointments are highly encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Please note however that appointments take priority and, thus, walk-ins are not guaranteed tutoring aid. Tutoring takes place in our Language Lab, which is located at CPR (Cooper Hall) room 467. We encourage all students to plan their tutoring sessions in advance. You can learn more about our tutors from their bios down below.
  • 网红爆料 St. Petersburg also offers in-person tutoring through the Debbie Nye Sembler . All in-person tutoring is drop-in based (no appointment necessary). Students can just stop by the front desk in DAV 107 when a tutor is scheduled. The Debbie Nye Sembler Student Success Center is a separate office from the USF World Languages department, so please go to their page for more information on their policies and procedures.

  1. When scheduling your appointment, please include your name, U-number, Class/Instructor and any details regarding your learning/tutoring needs in the "Notes" section.
  2. You will receive a confirmation email and an invitation to add the appointment to your calendar. If you have a virtual appointment, your Teams meeting link should be included in your confirmation email.

Meet Your Tutors

Bismark Peprah Adu - French

b

Hello and welcome! My name is Bismark Peprah Adu, and I am originally from Ghana, West Africa. I earned my bachelor's degree in French Education Studies with a minor in History from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Following strong academic performance, I was awarded a full scholarship by the Government of France to pursue French Linguistics at Universit茅 de Lom茅, Togo.

With over eight years of teaching experience, I have taught languages at the elementary, middle school, high school, college, and university levels. My background includes teaching Akan (my mother tongue) and French as a Foreign Language in Ghana, as well as English as a Second Language in C么te d鈥橧voire. In addition, I am an author of French educational materials and a member of the Ghana Association of Writers.

Currently, I am pursuing a dual master's degree鈥擬A in French and MA in Applied Linguistics鈥 while serving as a graduate representative, certified online instructor, and teaching assistant for French II. My one-on-one tutorials are designed to build confidence in speaking, writing, listening, and reading through an interactive and support approach.

Feel free to book an appointment with me鈥擨'll be glad to support your language-learning journey!

Caroline McCaughey - Spanish

c

Hello, I鈥檓 Caroline! I am originally from Southern California, but have lived all over the U.S., including New York City and Chicago. I am a first year graduate student studying Applied Linguistics here at USF. I began hearing Latin American (Mexican) Spanish spoken by my Mother and Abuelita as a kid, which inspired my great love of language. I continued to work with Spanish into undergrad, while obtaining a BA in Theater. I have also casually studied German, Russian, and Japanese, and will be working to gain fluency in Korean during my time as a grad student. I aspire to one day perform literary translation between English, Spanish, and Korean.

As a new tutor, I am excited to work with beginning level Spanish students, and share the language learning tools I have found most effective throughout my own education.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to schedule a session!

Jaime Gordon - Spanish

j

Hi, I鈥檓 Jaime! I completed my Bachelor鈥檚 in Applied Linguistics at USF in 2025, and am currently pursuing my Master鈥檚 in Linguistics: English as a Second Language. Although I鈥檓 a South Florida native, I love being able to call USF 鈥渉ome鈥.

Language learning and teaching is truly my passion, and I hope to share that with you as we work together! I have been a language learner since middle school鈥攈aving studied French, Korean, and Spanish鈥攕o I understand the various challenges and milestones that come with learning a second or foreign language. As a tutor, I seek to create a space where students can feel more confident and in-control of their own learning than they may be able to in a traditional environment. Whether you want to practice a tricky new grammar form or review weeks-old vocabulary, our time together is dedicated to your specific needs, goals, and pace.

Outside of academics, I love dancing, exploring new foods, and spending time outdoors. I truly believe that language learning can be much more about curiosity and persistence than memorizing rules, and I鈥檓 excited to help you discover what works best for you. I look forward to meeting you and supporting your journey here at USF!

Thi Ngan Ha Le - Japanese & Applied Linguistics

ha

Hi! My name is Ha (she/her) and I am currently pursuing an M.A. in Linguistics: English as a Second Language here at USF. I recently earned my Bachelor鈥檚 degree in English Language Education from Vietnam National University, and I鈥檓 thrilled to continue my academic journey here in Tampa.

My background in linguistics during undergraduate studies has equipped me with a solid understanding of the field. Whether it鈥檚 phonetics, morphology, semantics, or other subfields of linguistics, I am very willing to work with you to tackle these concepts together.

Additionally, I can support you with studying Japanese. I began learning Japanese in high school and had the opportunity to study in an exchange program in Japan last summer. As this is my first time tutoring Japanese, I would prefer to work with beginner-level students. I can assist you if you are currently enrolled in Japanese 1 or 2.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your language learning journey!
