HONORLOCK FACULTY FAQ
What are the requirements for using Honorlock?
Honorlock is a sophisticated solution. Prior to using it, please make sure you meet all items in the and note the following required steps:
1. Update your syllabus with the following鈥痳equired鈥痮nline proctoring syllabus statement (updated for Spring 2026).
All students must review the syllabus and the requirements, including the online terms and video testing requirements, to determine if they wish to remain in the course. Enrollment in the course is an agreement to abide by and accept all terms. Any student may elect to drop or withdraw from this course before the end of the drop/add period.
Online exams and quizzes within this course may require online proctoring. Therefore, students will be required to have an operational webcam with a microphone when taking an exam or quiz. Depending on the test requirements, a side-view camera may be required. This setup will require the use of a separate USB webcam. Students understand that remote recording devices are purchased and controlled by the student and that recordings from any private residence must be done with the permission of any person residing, and present, in the residence at the time of testing. Students should use a private testing space that meets the instructor鈥檚 specified test-setting requirements, as needed to eliminate any consent and privacy concerns. Students with concerns may discuss the location of an appropriate space for the recordings with their instructor or advisor.
Students must ensure that any recordings do not invade any third-party privacy rights and accept all responsibility and liability for violations of any third-party privacy concerns.
Students are fully responsible for ensuring all technological requirements necessary to take an online proctored exam, including, but not limited to, a reliable computer, a functional camera with a microphone (USB or internal, depending on test requirements), a high-speed internet connection, and up-to-date software, including the latest versions of and the are available. Depending on the exam, students may also need to download the Honorlock app.
Setup information will be provided prior to taking the online proctored exam. For additional information, please visit the USF online proctoring student FAQ and .
2. Import the required Honorlock student preparatory module into your course. This module is instrumental in ensuring that students are prepared for online proctoring and will prevent most issues. You can also download this module from by searching "USF Honorlock." Or, send an email to facultysupport@usf.edu and input "Honorlock module" within the subject line.
3. Learn everything you need to know about Honorlock and online proctoring through our鈥 (Canvas course). We will also facilitate live training sessions and you can connect with one of our experts in our鈥Live Support. 鈥
4. Verify with your students that they have access to a computer with the Chrome browser
and can download the Honorlock extension. Additionally, if you plan to use any webcam
dependent features (ID check, record student, or side camera view) you will need to
verify that students have a webcam.
Please note that Honorlock is imited to online courses (coded as AD or PD).
What do my students need to take an Honorlock online proctored exam?
At a minimum, your students will need a computer with the Chrome browser and the Honorlock extension. If you are using webcam dependent features such as "ID verification" or "webcam recording" the students will be required to have a camera (USB or internally mounted). Please note that Honorlock is not mobile compliant so students cannot take an exam through a cell phone, Chromebook, iPad, or any mobile device.
Starting in Spring 2026, USF will be piloting two new Honorlock features: the side camera view and the Honorlock app. If faculty choose to use the side camera view, students will be required to use a separate webcam. The Honorlock app will require students to download a standalone application from Honorlock, which will auto-download during the test pre-checks.
Because these features involve additional setup for students, faculty interested in using either option are strongly encouraged to contact facultysupport@usf.edu for guidance.
What if a student does not have a webcam or access to a computer?鈥
Instructors may also setup an exam without webcam dependent settings. Setting up an exam with these options is covered within the . Students can also check out a webcam at the USF library but please note that these are in limited supply so faculty and students should plan accordingly.
